Should you consider self-publishing
Should you consider self-publishing?
In recent years it has become more challenging to get a book in print with a traditional publisher. As a result, I've seen far too many writers give up. But I thank God that self-publishing, once viewed as proof an author's work was not good enough to find a "real" publisher, is now "respectable" and often the best option for many authors.
Some reasons to seriously consider indie publishing -
TIME - Most traditional publishers will only consider books that are agented. But landing an agent isn't easy and can take a long time. Then, there is no guarantee an agent will be able to find a publisher who will offer you a contract. Even if your book is contracted, it will likely be twelve to eighteen months (or longer) before your book is in print. If you have written a book that is needed now, consider going indie.
EARNINGS - No longer do most traditional publishers offer advances. If they do, unless you're well known, don't expect it to be much. And don't expect to earn much for each book that is sold. Indie authors earn substantially more.
